AMANDA-- "ALWAYS ALRIGHT"

Hey all! With the Oscars coming up this Sunday, I thought I'd share a song from one of the nominated films. There is a lot of music to choose from but I opted for "Always Alright" by Alabama Shakes as heard on the Silver Linings Playbook soundtrack. Alabama Shakes formed in 2009 and in 2011 caught the attention of the New York Times, NPR, and other media outlets, essentially lifting out of obscurity in a matter of months. Their first single "Hold On" off their debut album "Boys & Girls" enjoyed critical and commercial success, earning them three nominations at this year's Grammy Awards. The future is looking bright for these Southern rockers, who have only just begun making music. Anyway, if it isn't obvious by now, I like Alabama Shakes. The second this song started playing in the movie I recognized the explosive voice of lead singer and guitarist Brittany Howard, whose vocals have compared to Janis Joplin.
