Entry 173-- "Dance Again"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Saturday, March 31, 2012 | 3/31/2012 02:46:00 PM

Song: "Dance Again"
Artist: Jennifer Lopez feat. Pibtull
http://youtu.be/5KxII6AJYZY
Comments: Stuck In My Skull is always proud to bring you the hottest, the freshest, the fastest, and tonight, a special weekend entry to bring you this hot new track, less than a day old! So far, still no official music video, but if one pops up, I'll let you know.
As for the song itself, it's pretty nice. I feel quite confident that it's going to be getting lots of play on the dance floor, with an excellent, steady beat that demands to be danced to. Jennifer Lopez's performance is excellent, but in all fairness, though, Pitbull disappoints me here. He really needs to find something besides sex to sing about. He does it quite well, but it's getting old. Also, enough about Voli vodka. We know you're being paid to endorse it, but this is getting ridiculous. My gripes aside, I still say this is an excellent song. Take a listen!

Edit: Also, this song proves my long-held theory that RedOne is running the pop music industry. Just sayin'. (For the record, that's a joke, not a conspiracy theory.)

Entry-- 172 "I Like to Dance"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Friday, March 30, 2012 | 3/30/2012 07:52:00 PM

Song:  "I Like to Dance"
Artist:  Hot Chelle Rae
http://youtu.be/G0dN38E5UF8
Comments:  Hey all!  It's Miriah here with some Hot Chelle Rae to round out the week.  This song may not be new but I heard it for the first time recently and I have had it stuck in my head a lot the last few days.  I wish I had more to say, but it's a catchy song.  Enjoy!

Entry 171-- "Viva la Vida"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Thursday, March 29, 2012 | 3/29/2012 05:02:00 PM

Song: "Viva la Vida"
Artist: Coldplay
http://youtu.be/dvgZkm1xWPE
Comments: In all fairness, this song isn't currently stuck in my head-- that honor belongs to "The Wanderer" by Ensiferum, which I've used already. However, this song was earlier, so it wins the contest to be today's post. Truly, this song is an upbeat ditty that more than speaks for itself. It's an old favourite that I truly enjoy, and I hope you do too.

Entry 170-- "Bad Girls"

Song: "Bad Girls"
Artist: M.I.A.
http://youtu.be/3Yuqxl284cg
Comments: This song has been stuck in my head all afternoon, and it doesn't look like it's going to leave any time soon. If the video comes off as having a deeper meaning, and you're not sure what, I'd recommend checking Wikipedia's article on this song-- it's rather interesting. Enjoy!

Entry 169-- "The Con"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 | 3/27/2012 09:52:00 AM

Song: "The Con"
Artist: Tegan and Sara

Comments: Hey everyone! It's Amanda! Today's pick comes from Tegan and Sara. This indie band, composed of two identical twin sisters, hails from Canada and have been around since the mid-1990's. I haven't listen to them in a while but I really enjoy their music and appreciate that they compose all their own songs. As a fan, I had some difficulty choosing just one Tegan and Sara song. It came down to this and "Walking with a Ghost." Both are good but I couldn't get "The Con" out of my head. The music video is interesting as well. Enjoy!

Entry 168-- "Last Ride of the Day"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Monday, March 26, 2012 | 3/26/2012 04:35:00 AM

Song: "Last Ride of the Day"
Artist: Nightwish
http://youtu.be/Myse6nPdKJQ
Comments: Today's song was a toss-up between this song and "The Great Pandemonium" by Kamelot, and to be quite honest, this song won because the video to the Kamelot song is pretty bad, in my opinion. This song, on the other hand, is excellent enough to need no video. I can tell already-- this is going to get stuck in my head today. Enjoy the song!

Song: "Hip to My Heart"
Artist: The Band Perry
http://youtu.be/4cTI0gEZ_gg
Comments:  Hey everyone it's Miriah with your country song for the week.  This song has recently been getting some radio play and I haven't been able to get it out of my head.  Most people recognize this band from their song "If I Die Young" which not only made country radio but also some pop stations as well.  I had many different songs for this entry that I wanted to post but this video got the light for the week because painting the walls?  Yes, please.-- Enjoy!

Entry 166-- "Part of Me"

Song: "Part of Me"
Artist: Katy Perry

http://youtu.be/uuwfgXD8qV8
Comments: Stuck In My Skull is proud to bring you shiny new, hot off the press content! The video to this song is less than 24 hours old, and we're pleased to bring it to you, hopefully before it's old news!
Right, comments about the song. Katy Perry said in an interview that this song has nothing to do with her split with Russell Brand. Whether or not this is true, it is a break-up song (of a sort) that came fairly near to the end of her relationship. Putting that aside, I like this song. It's an upbeat song, not depressing like "The One that Got Away," and was competing with yesterday's entry for space in my skull for most of the day yesterday. The song is quite excellent, and the video is definitely worth a watch. Enjoy!

Comments: Stuck In My Skull is pleased to bring you an entry that is not Cover Week! Sorry, I couldn't resist the line. Getting to the music: "E" is the classic dance hit by Drunken Munkey, that Pandora would not stop showing me last night, and so it became today's entry. Enjoy!

Entry 163: Cover Week, Part 7?!-- "Ni**as In Paris"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Monday, March 19, 2012 | 3/19/2012 07:24:00 PM

Song: "Ni**as In Paris"
Artist: Katy Perry
http://youtu.be/ZITlj5y1GJU
Comments: This song opens with the spoken line "This is about to get really embarrassing." Yep, it is. Because I really couldn't find anything else to do, I decided to use this link Amanda sent me-- Katy Perry covering "Ni**as In Paris" by Jay-Z and Kanye West. There really wasn't supposed to be a sixth, let alone seventh part of Cover Week, but I just didn't know what else to use, so here it is. It's heavily censored, acoustic, and sounds nothing like the original, and I can't honestly take it seriously, and despite all of this, I sat there and listened to the whole thing. Enjoy!

Entry 162: Cover Week, Part 6-- " Storytime" Weekend Special!

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Sunday, March 18, 2012 | 3/18/2012 10:11:00 AM

Song: "Storytime"
Artist: Frozen Lys
http://youtu.be/XPslYwWcVJU
Comments: Hello, all! Chris here, back from my week off. Thanks to Miriah and Amanda for covering so well for me! I was down in New Orleans, rebuilding houses that got trashed in Hurricane Katrina in 2005. And before you ask, yes, there is still plenty to be done down there. I was working with the Saint Bernard Project, which you should all go look at. No, really. Although the world has by-and-large forgotten about New Orleans, that city really does still need your help.
Anyway, the song. I forget how I stumbled onto Frozen Lys, but a month or two ago, I ran into this band. This trio covers Nightwish songs, and as far as I can tell, doesn't even do it by playing together in person. This three-piece band (not a five piece band with backing, like the original) does an impressive cover of an excellent song, over the internet. I emailed them, and they have told me that they will be producing original work in the future. I can't wait to see it. Frozen Lys, you have impressed me. Keep up the good work!
Regular content will resume Monday. Hope everyone enjoyed St. Patrick's Day (safely)!

Entry 161: Cover Week, Part 5-- "Bad Romance"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Friday, March 16, 2012 | 3/16/2012 09:45:00 AM

Song: "Bad Romance"
Artist: Lissie

Comments: Amanda here, finishing off cover week with a folk rendition of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance." It was a toss up between this song and Hugo's "99 Problems," both of which I enjoy. In the end, Lissie won out and while this version may not be to everyone's liking,  I found it a cool and refreshing twist on one of the most successful pop songs in recent music history. If,however, you do like Lissie's sound, I'd recommend checking out more of her stuff. She has some pretty good covers, including Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way" and Kid Cudi's "Pursuit of Happiness." Thanks for reading and I hope you all enjoyed cover week!

Entry 160: Cover Week-- Part 4 "What Hurts the Most"

Song: "What Hurts the Most"
Artist: Cascada
http://youtu.be/JNhTNGC9vTo
Comments:  So I came across this song a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed the cover of this song originally done by Rascal Flatts.  While the original version is excellent and well-done this new version puts an up beat tempo to a sad song and most importantly, does so well.   I'm still a bit bias towards the original as my favorite of the two but this is a nice change of pace-- Enjoy!

Entry 159: Cover Week, Part 3-- "Seven Nation Army"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 | 3/14/2012 08:42:00 AM

Song: "Seven Nation Army"
Artist: Ben L'Oncle Soul

Comments: Amanda here! Today's pick is a cover of the White Stripes' popular song "Seven Nation Army” by French soul singer and songwriter Ben L'Oncle Soul. Of the cover versions I've heard (and there are plenty), this is by far one of the more creative and interesting ones. I barely recognized it until I heard Jack Whites' underlying guitar riff play out and it has been stuck in my head ever since. If you are a fan of original, I hope you can appreciate the funky, retro vibe this version has. It's not any better or any worse, just different. Enjoy the song!

Entry 158: Cover Week, Part 2-- "Hurt"

Song: "Hurt"
Artist: Johnny Cash
http://youtu.be/SmVAWKfJ4Go
Comments:  Here comes part two for cover week!  This song was originally done by Nine Inch Nails.  Although a few others besides dear ol' Johnny has done a cover of this song he is one of the most well-known. This song is quite dark in both makes but they are taken on two different perspectives.  Johnny has taken it on a more reflective perspective over his entire life.  I thoroughly enjoy both of these and I can't pick a favorite. Enjoy!

Entry 157: Cover Week, Part 1-- "All Along the Watchtower"

Song: "All Along the Watchtower"
Artist: The Jimi Hendrix Experience
http://youtu.be/9WbKBKima4Q
Comments: It's Amanda again, and it's Cover Week at Stuck In My Skull! Chris is out of town so Miriah and I will be taking over and bringing you some of our favorite covers or some of the better ones we've come across. While strongly associated with guitar legend Jimi Hendrix, this song was first written and recorded by Bob Dylan, another sixties icon. Whenever I listen to it, I seem to forget this fact. In my opinion, it is one of those rare instances where the cover is as good or slightly better than the original (sorry Bob!). In any case, if you haven't heard it before, I suggest you take a listen. The song has this great narrative feel to it and a powerful way of sticking with you. Enjoy!

Comments: This entry was supposed to be for yesterday, but alas, it slipped my mind. Another song by Laura Marling, and thus another song I have to give my friend Abbey credit for showing me. This song was stuck in my head when I woke up this morning, and I suspect it's not going anywhere.

Entry 154-- "Dancing Shoes" and Site Update!

Song: "Dancing Shoes"
Artist: Dev
http://youtu.be/Im53_2a-VCw
Comments: Well, yesterday was supposed to be the start of a theme week, but I completely dropped the ball and forgot to post. I really don't want to cut a theme week down to four entries, so I'm going to push it back until next week. For today, the Dev song "Dancing Shoes." While not as catchy as some of the songs I post here, I really like this song. First and foremost, the message is just heart-warming. More importantly, I look at a song like this, and think that Dev is evolving as an artist. I honestly think she's come a long way from "Bass Down Low."

As far as the site update goes, it's not so much an update as an announcement. As of a few days ago, Stuck In My Skull reached a milestone-- 1500 hits! In celebration, I made a Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Stuck-In-My-Skull/166834156767905). I think that's the link... Be sure to like us on FB!
