Entry 114-- "One (Your Name)"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Friday, December 30, 2011 | 12/30/2011 11:58:00 AM

Song: "One (Your Name)"
Artist: Swedish House Mafia feat Pharrell
http://youtu.be/PkQ5rEJaTmk
Comments: Another gift from an amazing person-- you know who you are-- that keeps getting itself lodged firmly in my skull. This song is epic on so many levels. I would have liked to have sat down and done a thoughtful, meaningful post for the final post of 2011, but this is late enough as it is. I'll try and throw together a post to wrap up the year tomorrow. As far as the song goes, it is epic. As far as the video goes... the keyboard-thing in the beginning? If it exists, (which I doubt,) I want it.

Entry 113-- "Amaranth"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Thursday, December 29, 2011 | 12/29/2011 11:33:00 AM

Song: "Amaranth"
Artist: Nightwish
http://youtu.be/GdZn7k5rZLQ
Comments: "Amaranth" is a wonderful proof by demonstration of a variety of different ideas I hold about symphonic metal as a genre and music in general. One-- new isn't bad. (No, I don't wish to get into the "new" Nightwish versus "old" Nightwish debate over vocalists.) Two-- music videos can be art. Three-- metal requires crazy hair, no exceptions. Actually, the last one is mostly a joke, not a serious allegation, but it usually holds. More to the point, this song is wonderful-- take a listen!

Entry 112-- "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself"

Song: "I Just Don't Know What To Do"
Artist: The White Stripes
http://youtu.be/Snyxh8PtYkQ
Comments: Sorry for the missed posts, folks. Hopefully everyone enjoyed their holiday of choice-- I know I did. Moving right along. This is an old song that's currently stuck in my head. Good old Jack White's voice is distinct-- when paired with Meg White, there's no mistaking what duo you're listening to. Enjoy!

Entry 111-- Heart Week, Part 5: "Fight for You"

<3 Week, Part 5
Song: "Fight For You"
Artist: Jason Derulo
http://youtu.be/pV36OEBWRvU
Comments: Well, here we are, wrapping up <3 Week. So far as I can tell, this song hasn't gotten much notice yet. I've yet to hear it on the radio, and as far as I can tell, it hasn't charted yet, but that's irrelevant. This song speaks for itself. I love you, and I will fight for you. <3!

<3 Week, Part 4
Song: "Who'd Have Known"
Artist: Lily Allen
http://youtu.be/XMTSsKhiBUA
Comments: No, T-Pain's "5'O Clock" did not come first, YouTube commenters. This song was first, and for the purposes of <3 Week, quite a bit better. I'll let the lyrics talk for me. "Who'da known, who'da known / When you flash up on my phone / I'd no longer feel alone / No longer feel alone." <3!

Entry 109-- Heart Week, Part 3: "You Da One"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 | 12/21/2011 08:52:00 AM

<3 Week, Part 3
Song: "You Da One"
Artist: Rihanna
http://youtu.be/2iAczjvLoi8
Comments: And <3 Week continues! This song says it all. "You are the one that I dream about all day / You are the one that I think about all day." Approaching this more musically, the song is easy to listen to, uptempo but not fast, and if my ears aren't deceiving me, has a hint of dubstep around 2:32. Anyone else noticing a trend towards dubstep-y beats in pop songs? I'll find examples of that for some other post. Anyway. There's supposedly an official video in the works for this song; I'll post it if/when it happens. To the one that I love, <3!

*edit: Finally got the titles working for this week. Oh well, I guess it will have to be "Heart Week" instead of "<3 Week" in the post titles. So be it-- the meaning is the same.
*edit 1/8/12: Well, the official video happened awhile ago, and I kept neglecting to post it. Here it is, but frankly, I don't like it. It makes the song sexual and not in the least bit romantic... http://youtu.be/b3HeLs8Yosw

<3 Week, Part 2
Song: "I Belong To You (+Mon Coeur S'ouvre A Ta Voix)"
Artist: Muse
http://youtu.be/IgH7XF_l-VE
Comments: And <3 Week continues! For this one, the English half of the title more than explains everything. The song is beautiful, (like you, [Sorry, couldn't resist,]) and moving. I've looked up a translation for the French part of the lyrics before, but I admit I don't remember what they say. It was something romantic, though. Enjoy the song!

<3 Week, Part 1

Artist: Gym Class Heroes featuring Neon Hitch

Comments: Many apologies for the missed entry Friday. As a small consolation, I bring an update about Entry 94-- the official video for the song has been released. It can be found here: http://youtu.be/vjIwmJMqrco
This week is because I am apart from the one I love. She knows it, and before we separated, tossed me this song. The song is adorable, sweet, and exactly what the doctor ordered. You know who you are. This week's for you. <3

Entry 106: "Phenomenon"

Song: "Phenomenon"
Artist: Thousand Foot Krutch
http://youtu.be/YtE-rNLgyl8
Comments: Sorry for the lack of post yesterday and the lateness of today's; I was travelling yesterday and recovering today. Thousand Foot Krutch, like Skillet and a select few others, is a more-or-less religious band that's accessible to more than just a religious audience. I ran into Thousand Foot Krutch awhile back, and really enjoyed this song. I hope you enjoy it!

Entry 105-- "Jump Around"

Song: "Jump Around"
Artist: House of Pain
http://youtu.be/U9Q0jPyrja0
Comments: As my friends can attest, this song has been stuck in my head way too much lately. It's catchy, upbeat, and lodged in my cranium harder than any song has been in a long, long time. The music video to this song has an intro of about 20 seconds that I haven't heard before, but the rest of the song seems to be the same. There is some name confusion on this song; I believe the artist Everlast was performing under the name/band House of Pain when they released this song. Enjoy the song and, *offbeat* Jump! Jump! Jump! Jump!

Song: "Sharp Dressed Man"
Artist: ZZ Top
http://youtu.be/Pn2-b_opVTo
Comments: After I posted in Entry 100 about my distinct lack of ZZ Top, my friend Amanda promptly sent me this song, and now I have to admit, I know some good ZZ Top. The song is catchy and excellent, and I almost called off Pop Week to post this the day I got it. Enjoy the song, and thanks Amanda!

Entry 103- Pop Week, Part 4: "Without You"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Friday, December 9, 2011 | 12/09/2011 05:09:00 AM

Pop Week, Part 4
Song: "Without You"
Arist: David Guetta featuring Usher
http://youtu.be/jUe8uoKdHao
Comments: I don't know what's with David Guetta and altering the planet in his music videos, but after spinning the globe around in his video to "Little Bad Girl," he's rearranging the continents in this one. "Without You" is sitting at number 21 on the YouTube Music charts and number 7 on the Billboard, and is getting played every other song on the radio, it seems like. Anyway, this wraps up Pop Week. Hope you all enjoyed it, and enjoy your weekend!

Comments: Currently sitting at number 7 on YouTube Music and number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, "Moves Like Jagger" is a catchy song that marks Maroon 5's first real production of something danceable and club-worthy. I keep hearing this song popping up both on the radio for easy listening and at parties, and there's a good reason for it-- the song is excellent. Enjoy!

Also, this blog broke 800 hits yesterday. Thanks again to my amazing readers!

Entry 100!

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 | 12/06/2011 12:10:00 PM

Well, this is the 100th entry on this humble blog. To mark the occasion, I thought I'd share a list of the songs that I truly love. Some of them might have received an entry here already, and some might still get one. I've decided to put them alphabetically by artist, and just for chuckles, to see if I can find one for each letter of the English alphabet. Some letters might have more than one band, depending on how indecisive I am. Hopefully I'll be able to find an artist for each letter.
============================================
Astral Projection: Dancing Galaxy
Astral Projection: Tryptomine Dream

Black Eyed Peas: Just Can't Get Enough
Breaking Benjamin: The Diary of Jane

Coldplay: Violet Hill
Coldplay: Cemeteries of London

Daft Punk: Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
Darude: Music
Darude: Sandstorm
Deadmau5: Moar Ghosts 'n' Stuff

Earth: Engine of Ruin

Flobots: White Flag Warrior

Green Day: Letterbomb

Hush Sound, The: Red Wine

Immogen Heap: Hide and Seek

Juanes: Clase de Amor

Kamelot: The Haunting (Somewhere in Time)
Katy Perry: E.T.
Katy Perry: Teenage Dream
Killers, The: When You Were Young

Led Zepplin: Stairway to Heaven
Linkin Park: Somewhere I Belong
Linkin Park: Waiting for the End
LMFAO: Party Rock Anthem

Muse: Butterflies and Hurricanes
Muse: Map of the Problematique
Muse: Resistance

Nightwish: Ever Dream

X... I've got nothing.

Y... Still nothing.

Z... Zip, Zilch, Zero. I mean, there's ZZ Top, but I was never really into them... Someone send me some good ZZ Top? Or anything that starts with X or Y?
============================================
Well, despite my abysmal performance in the last three letters of the alphabet, I came up with artists and songs I love for 23 of 26 letters. That's 88.46%-- a B+ in some grading scales, and a fairly respectable amount. I meant to continue Pop Week today, but I decided this would be a better use of this milestone entry.
And what a milestone it is. At time of writing, this blog has 793 hits. Wow. Call me Taylor Swift, but I am so surprised and so grateful to you, my audience, and I can't thank you enough. Looking forward, I think I'll start trying new things. Maybe I'll write about more than just whatever happens to be stuck in my head at the moment. Stuck In My Skull is as much a blog about what I'm listening to and what I think is good music as it is about music in general. Maybe I'll try and advertise a bit, get a bigger audience. Maybe I'll get other writers to contribute to this blog. We'll see.
As always, enjoy the music, and if you have a song you want to share, let me hear about it!

Comments: Welcome to Pop Week, my excuse to sit down with a top 100 chart and enjoy it. Starting our week off-- "Sexy and I Know It." Currently #1 on the YouTube music charts and #2 on the Billboard Top 100, "Sexy and I Know It" is the latest hit from the fiendish geniuses that brought you "Party Rock Anthem." Fair warning-- NSFW stands for "Not Safe For Work," something that the first link definitely needs to be labelled. About the song itself-- it's catchy, and won't let you go.

Song: "I Write Sins Not Tragedies"
Artist: Panic! at the Disco
http://youtu.be/vc6vs-l5dkc
Comments: To be quite honest, I have Muse's "Glorious" stuck in my head this morning. However, when I opened youtube, this song was sitting on the recommended list, so I decided, why not? This song is catchy-- I have a friend of mine (Katelyn) to thank for introducing me to it, and the band. As if to prove the point-- in the time it has taken me to type this post, the song is now stuck in my head. Enjoy the weekend!

As if to prove the point-- in the time it has taken me to type this post, the song is now stuck in my head. Enjoy the weekend!
