Entry 18-- "Stereo Love" and Site Update!

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Saturday, July 30, 2011 | 7/30/2011 10:23:00 AM

Song: "Stereo Love"
Artist: Edward Maya and Vika Jigulina
http://youtu.be/p-Z3YrHJ1sU
Comments: I love this song. A friend of mine (you know who you are) showed me this song awhile back, and I fell in love with it.  The song has a sort of Mediterranean sound to it, which I find wholly appropriate to the video. The beat is catchy, the lyrics are epic, and the song as a whole is great. Check it out.

So, yesterday this blog reached 200 hits! That's an amazing milestone, and I can't thank you guys enough. At this point, I've basically decided that I'm going to try and update the blog every weekday, so this will be the last Saturday post, and no post tomorrow. Also, I'm going to do my friends a favor and quit spamming Facebook every time I post. Basically, bookmark this blog and make sure to check it every weekday! If you have a song you want me to feature, let me know!

Entry 17-- "Loca"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Friday, July 29, 2011 | 7/29/2011 08:18:00 AM

Song: "Loca"
Artist: Shakira
http://youtu.be/KewfYKJy8YU (English Version)
http://youtu.be/XAhTt60W7qo (Spanish Version)
Comments: If you are fluent in Spanish, or just don't mind listening to songs in another language, I highly recommend listening to the Spanish version. The English version loses a certain something in translation, like the ability to be euphimistic. "Soy loca con mi tigre" sounds so much better (if slightly less entertaining) than "I'm crazy but you're naked."

Entry 16-- "Jar of Hearts" and Site Update

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Thursday, July 28, 2011 | 7/28/2011 10:13:00 AM

Song: Jar of Hearts
Artist: Christina Perri
http://youtu.be/8v_4O44sfjM
Comments: I originally heard this song being performed on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and endeavored without success to find a video of that perfomance. Don't get me wrong, the music video is well done and moving, but it fails to give me chills the same Ms. Perri's voice did the first time I heard this song. Well, as many chills, anyway.

In unrelated news, I added a search bar to the site, so if you're looking for something in particular, you can quickly see if I have it-- I've tried to tag every entry with at least the artist name and song title, so searching should be easier. If I don't have what you're looking for, let me know! I'm always open to feedback and new ideas.

Comments: Tiesto and these terrific twins ('scuse the alliteration) make a truly epic song and put in to a prety darn cool video. Definitely worth checking this out.

Song: "Can't Stop"
Artist: Red Hot Chili Peppers

Comments: Sorry this is going up so late. I can't stop listening to this song. Catchy. Beautiful. A hint of deeper-than-surface-level meaning. Hillarious video. What else does a song need?

Song: "Icky Thump"
Artist: The White Stripes
http://youtu.be/1OjTspCqvk8
Comments: A classic song by a classic band, "Icky Thump" is one of the many reasons I wish The White Stripes hadn't broken up. A slightly political song, but one that makes a valid point nevertheless. The video is also pretty awesome.

Entry 12 -- "Judas (Royksopp Remix)"

Song: "Judas (Royksopp Remix)"
Artist: Lady Gaga
http://youtu.be/-mis3TyDeTQ
Comments: This is one of my favourite two remixes of this song. The mood of the music is completely different than the original. I think the Norwegian duo does this well.
Also, for any who missed it, there was a late night update last night: http://stuckinmyskull.blogspot.com/2011/07/entry-11-revisit-hide-and-seek-tiesto.html

Entry 11 -- Revisit: "Hide and Seek (Tiesto Remix)"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Saturday, July 23, 2011 | 7/23/2011 08:59:00 PM

Song: "Imogen Heap - Hide and Seek (Tiesto Remix)"
Artist: Tiesto
http://youtu.be/tOUUx3f555I
Comments: Emergency Music Update! I had decided that I was going to go to posting once daily as a general rule, and decided to announce as much in the morning, but then this song was brought to my attention. I was completely unaware that Tiesto had remixed this song. Thank you, YouTube, for showing me this. It is epic, on so many levels. Yes, it loses the quiet, haunting quality the original song had, but gains an entirely new feel. I wouldn't compare the songs side-by-side for fear of not doing one of them justice, but I feel comfortable saying that they are both amazing in their own way.

Entry 10-- "Better Half of Me"

Song: "Better Half of Me"
Artist: Dash Berlin
http://youtu.be/-3jrdMIOKvQ
Comments: Another song recommended to me by my friend Marilyn, I cheerfully admit that I've never really listened to Dash Berlin. After hearing this song, that will change. The moral of the story is: If you know good music, tell people about it. (Especially me, because I'll put it here.)

Also, this blog has over 100 hits! Thanks to everyone who reads this! You are amazing!

Entry 9-- "Clubbed to Death"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Friday, July 22, 2011 | 7/22/2011 09:24:00 AM

Song: "Clubbed to Death"
Artist: Escala
http://youtu.be/pM5g4i7VjDE
Comments: Recommended to me by my friend Marilyn, Escala is a very good string quartet hailing from England. This song is pretty darn epic, and I had to include it here. It jumped the queue it was so good. Today was going to be something completely different, but now that I poke around YouTube, I'm discovering that Escala has covered the song that I was going to do as well (http://youtu.be/mj3bL4sLx7s). In addition, they have covered a slew of songs I'm familiar with, and listening to just a few of them (links below), I should amend my description of the band: Escala is a very good, very prolific string quartet hailing from England. Check them out.

Other Songs I Listened To:

Comments: Not feeling well, and not at all up to writing a post of any length today. This song speaks for itself, though: a bold statement of beautiful, synthesized vocals.

Entry 5-- "Lethal Industry"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Monday, July 18, 2011 | 7/18/2011 07:03:00 PM

Song: "Lethal Industry"
Artist: Tiesto
http://youtu.be/pYU0TVe4LWY (album)
http://youtu.be/_Nnh0LuhLag (Live, starting about 4:00)
Comments: I love this song. If you get bored on YouTube, you can track down a version featuring a guitarist playing live in mid-set, which is just as epic. The two versions here are both worth a listen, and carry themselves well on their own merits. The first one is significantly shorter, being the album version, but is guaranteed to have you dancing. Or at least, it's guaranteed to have me dancing. The second version is from a concert Tiesto gave for Queensday in his native country, to the thrill of all, I am sure. "Lethal Industry" starts about four minutes in, after the tail end of "Moonlight Party," if I am hearing it correctly.

Unrelated Comment: I've tentatively settled on a twice-daily pattern of updates. At some point, I'll slow down, either when I get bored or the blog picks up a stable following. (Yes, I am that vain.) Vanity aside, having a greater base of content means the blog is more robust and more likely to be noticed.

Entry 4-- "Wishmaster"

Song: "Wishmaster"
Artist: Nightwish
http://youtu.be/tLW7wJvdFSI (Original Lyrics)
http://youtu.be/gg5_mlQOsUQ (Misheard Lyrics)
Comments: This song holds the dubious honour of having the most often misheard lyrics of any song I know, thanks in large part to the opera-like vocals of the (not coincidentally) opera-trained lead singer Tarja Turunen. I felt the need to post a video of the lyrics, rather than an actual music video so that readers not familiar with the band could actually understand what was being said, and in doing so, found the Misheard version. I couldn't resist copying down that link as well. After more than a day of having the song stuck in my head (in a fiendish combination of the true and misheard lyrics), I decided I had to post it. (To any fans of the band who intend to pose the typical "What do you think of Anette Olzon, the new singer?" my answer is: I like them both, for different reasons.)

Song: "Thou Shalt Always Kill"
Artist: Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip
http://youtu.be/yoN6XfyQsr4
Comments: Another favourite of mine, this song is a long list of things that I (generally) agree with. Most importantly: Thou shalt not require Dan le Sac and Scroobius Pip to tell you these things. (Almost as important as "Thou Shalt Not Make Repetitive, Generic Comments on YouTube.") I should note that "kill" in this song is used in the sense of "I just killed that math test," and not "I just took a gun and killed that guy."
