Entry 96-- "Shiver"

Song: "Shiver"
Artist: Coldplay
http://youtu.be/LpwW4iraV3Q
Comments: As it's nice and cold this morning, I decided to post Coldplay's "Shiver" for the occasion. Oddly enough, the lyrics (if I remember them correctly) have nothing to do with the temperature. Nevertheless, a nice, upbeat song to start the morning. Enjoy!

Song: "Slow Burn"
Artist: Atreyu
http://youtu.be/SHgeCifBHrs
Comments: I woke up this morning with this song stuck in my head. It's got a really catchy piano intro that I'm rather fond of, and despite being closer to screamo than I usually listen to, I really like this song. Hopefully you enjoy it to.

Song: "The Hardest Ever"
Artist: Will.I.Am feat. Jennifer Lopez, Mick Jagger

Comments: Sorry about the week with no posts, folks. While I wasn't posting, the American Music Awards happened, and Will.I.Am preformed this song for the first time. It's shiny new, and altogether shiny. Enjoy the song!

Update, 12/19/11: The official video for this song was released a week ago: http://youtu.be/vjIwmJMqrco

Entry 93-- "Our Truth"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Friday, November 18, 2011 | 11/18/2011 04:25:00 AM

Song: "Our Truth"
Artist: Lacuna Coil
http://youtu.be/SB9LXpO6yWo
Comments: Thank you, Guitar Hero, for showing me this song all those years ago. Lacuna Coil is (according to wikipedia) a gothic/alternative metal band, though I'm not quite sure if I agree with that. Alternative metal, maybe, but not so much gothic metal. As 'rock' gets harder and 'metal' gets softer (with the obvious exceptions of power, speed, death, and similar sub-genres of metal), the difference between them is increasingly blurred. At this point, I'd have to call this song hard rock, or at best, alternative metal. That would be an interesting post, actually-- a sort of editorial on the changes of the genres... But I digress. The song is amazing, and you should check it out. Enjoy your weekend!

(My plans for the coming holiday week are a little up in the air-- hopefully I'll be able to post, but I may well end up on a week-long hiatus.)

Song: "Impend"
Artist: Martin O'Donnell

Comments: Proving my status as a complete and total nerd, this song is taken from the Halo 2 soundtrack. It's an instrumental piece with a good beat, and I honestly am considering trying to spin this into a club mix. Enjoy the song!

Song: "We Are Winning"
Artist: Flobots
http://youtu.be/3TXzkR1mv28
Comments: First, sorry for the lateness of this post. Also, this will probably be the last Flobots song for awhile-- I've been hitting them too much. In my defense, a friend of mine recently gave me two albums of theirs, and while I don't generally like things that are this politically charged, it's good music, and keeps getting stuck in my head. That, and the lyrics are well written and meaningful, something I don't see enough of. I will always support songs that get you thinking, and politics notwithstanding, this song definitely does.

Entry 89-- "Fever for the Flava (NFS Version)"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Friday, November 11, 2011 | 11/11/2011 04:29:00 AM

Song: "Fever for the Flava (NFS Version)"
Artist: Hot Action Cop
http://youtu.be/n2H2-AqWv1A
Comments: Ages ago, I had a game called "Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2." Years later, I find myself remembering random songs from the soundtrack, one of which is this song. This version has different lyrics than the original song, but I like it nonetheless. It doesn't bother me, because I call this song a different version than the original, as opposed to a censored version, which would bother me quite a bit more. But that's beyond the point-- enjoy the song, and have a good weekend!

Entry 88-- "All of the Lights"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Thursday, November 10, 2011 | 11/10/2011 10:26:00 AM

Song: "All of the Lights"
Artist: Kanye West ft. Rihanna, Kid Cudi
http://youtu.be/jjDdGKBhTuo (lyrics)
http://youtu.be/HAfFfqiYLp0 (Official Video - Epilepsy Warning)
Comments: Sorry for the late entry. This song definitely sounds like it has significantly more people than just Kanye, Rihanna, and Kid Cudi in it, but those three are the only ones listed. More and more, it feels like I'm noticing unlisted or uncredited artists in songs, and it's beginning to bother me... But enough about that. "All of the Lights" has been stuck in my head all day. The horns and drums in this song make it stand out from contemporary songs of the genre, and make it catchy. Take a listen.

A cautionary note-- the epilepsy warning on the official video is serious. If flashing lights give you seizures, do NOT click that link.

*Edit: I went looking for more info on the song, and as it turns out, there are significantly more than three people involved in this song. Wikipedia's image of the album cover for the single shows a whole list of people. Also, I am twice the fool. I clicked on the "show more" button on youtube, and it does in fact list the additional vocalists: "All Of The Lights" by Kanye West feat. Rihanna and Kid Cudi with vocals by Fergie, Charlie Wilson, John Legend, Tony Williams, Alicia Keys, La Roux, The Dream, Ryan Leslie, Alvin Fields and Ken Lewis.

Song: "Sofi Needs a Ladder"
Artist: deadmau5
http://youtu.be/gDndZn0YPdI
Comments: This is another one of those songs where I'm not sure why it's not written as _____ featuring ______-- in this case, deadmau5 featuring SOFI. The song is deadmau5's "You Need a Ladder" with vocals by Sofia Toufa (SOFI), and I'm not at all sure why she isn't featured in the official title. But that's beyond the point. The point is the song is quite excellent, I think. Catchy beat, witty lyrics, and keeps getting stuck in my head. At this rate, it'll get more time in my skull than the current champion, "Stereo Hearts."

Song: "Good Life"
Artist: OneRepublic

Comments: While the artist may have woken up in London yesterday, I merely woke up with this song stuck in my head. The beat is catchy, the tempo mellow, and the whistling a tune that everybody seems to know. Enjoy the song!

Song: "High Voltage"
Artist: Linkin Park
http://youtu.be/ZAcPHtgN9TY
Comments: I always forget what (if any) album this song came from, but this song is old by Linkin Park standards, and doesn't sound like they have for quite awhile. Old Linkin Park is an unusual sound, and I feel as though they were experimenting with their style in this song. Whatever the reason for the sound, I like it, and hopefully you will too.

Song: "Image of the Invisible"
Artist: Thrice
http://youtu.be/UbAjxltPmuI
Comments: This song and I have a history. I originally saw it wandering the internet as a quasi-political viral(ish) video, just a message set to this song. I fell in love with the song, and went looking for the the rest of it. Frankly, songs like these make me wonder why stadiums use stuff like "Boom Boom Pow" as fight songs-- yeah, they're good songs, but there are so much better, with so much more adrenaline. Enjoy the song!
