ETC #83 "Hermana Tierra" y "Bellisimo Asi"

Written By Anonymous on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 | 4/30/2013 06:42:00 AM

Song: "Hermana Tierra" ~ Artist: Laura Pausini

Comments: Hey everyone. I'm making this a quick post. I have to apologize things for me are really crazy right now and I haven't had time to put sufficient time into this post which saddens me because I love this artist. Miss Pausini has been creating world music since the 90s and sings in a variety of languages. I am bringing you the Spanish versions since most people probably know that more often than Italian.  This first song is one to which I used to love to fall asleep. The song ends around 3:30 please excuse the rest of the video.

Song: "Bellisimo Asi" ~ Artist: Laura Pausini

Comments:  This second song is much more up tempo and can really show off Laura's vocals.  I'm sorry I've gotta jet. I really hope that you enjoy her music.  Happy listening!

One other thing that I wanted to mention in reference to Christopher's post. I am so excited to see how many hits we have been getting and I love that I get to be a part of this!  Music is such a wonderful and powerful thing and I'm so glad that all of us get to share our love of that with you all and I just hope that you enjoy listening/reading just as much as we like writing and sharing.

Stuck In My Skull 406 -- "The Zephyr Song"

Song: "The Zephyr Song" || Artist: Red Hot Chili Peppers" || http://youtu.be/0fcRa5Z6LmU ||
Comments: Good morning, everyone! I picked this song becuase it is absolutely perfect for my mood and how today is shaping up. Where I'm at, rain has abandoned the sky to let white, gentle clouds and bright sun have the day, we're hoping for a light breeze, the temperature is perfect, and the day is all around excellent. This song fits, starting with the title and all the way through the cheery, light tone of the song. The beat is calm, and the lyrics mellow and upbeat. Enjoy the song, and I hope you enjoy the day!

Wow.

We at SIMS are so incredibly pumped, and so thrilled, and so happy that you all love us so much. We all thank you for the bottom of our hearts, and hope that we can continue to bring you back for more.

I can't speak for all the other authors, but I have to say: This has been one incredible ride, and I feel like it's only getting started.

ETC# 82 "Hell on Heels"

Written By Anonymous on Friday, April 26, 2013 | 4/26/2013 05:00:00 AM

Song: "Hell on Heels" ~ Artist: Pistol Annies

Comments: HAPPY FRIDAY! I'm bringing you a little country today. The band Pistol Annies I am loving their start. Their first album is off to a great start as they've got that classic country twang, a little attitude, and three powerful women in the group.  The trio is made up of the famous Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe, and Angaleena Presley also they are known also as Lonestar Annie, Hippie Annie, and Holler Annie respectively. This song is one of their singles from their album Hell on Heels and while it is describing how they take advantage of men (which hopefully they don't realistically endorse) the song has a classical country beat. I was fortunate enough to see them live and they were absolutely amazing. By the way, they are having another album released next month (Annie Up) if you're interested. Hopefully it will be as good as the first album. Happy listening!

Stuck In My Skull 405 -- "I Will Survive"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Thursday, April 25, 2013 | 4/25/2013 12:15:00 PM

Song: "I Will Survive" || Artist: Gloria Gaynor || http://youtu.be/ZBR2G-iI3-I ||
Comments: Sorry this is going up so late. To be quite honest, I have precisely no idea why I have this song stuck in my head. But I do, and boy is it catchy. 35 years after it was first sung, it's still a hit. Oh, disco. This song is quintessential disco. It's got a steady beat with cymbals everywhere, and it still is worth dancing to. So kick back, relax, and remember: You will survive.

ETC #81 "Because We Can"

Song: "Because We Can" ~ Artist: Bon Jovi

Comments: Hey, all!  Today I'm bringing a little Bon Jovi into your day. I didn't realize this, but he is 51 years old now. I knew he was getting up there, but congratulations to him for still producing music after 30 years in the business. I highly recommend reading the Wiki for this guy as it's intriguing. For someone so well known I knew very little about his life. This is his latest single that I recently heard on the radio and it is an interesting song. It  has his classical (slightly cliche) motivational theme with a mix of song that is a combination of his older stuff and some of his more recent songs. To me this song is a mix of "Who Says You Can't Go Home" and "Have a Nice Day".  It is up tempo and may not show off Jon's voice, but the beat is infectious. I would love for this be a popular song for the summer, but since it doesn't include any kind of celebration or partying theme it very well may not. Either way, here is another excellent hit by the famous Bon Jovi. Happy listening!

[Secret Sounds] ~ Nutronic - The Ghost

Written By Relinquish on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 | 4/24/2013 11:54:00 AM

Track: The Ghost
Artist: Nutronic
Download: FREE (Bandcamp)
Nutronic is a fresh duo consisting of Jeremy Strickland as the vocalist & producer and Nick Dyson on guitars. The Ghost is their first single, and it was featured on Vital Dubstep as well as other channels. It's under Philosophy Recordings and has several official remixes, though the original version is free.

For starters, the syncopated melody flutters over the harmonic line, drawing you in immediately. The vocals are strong and steady throughout, and especially shine in the chorus. After the great buildup, the drop lands you into full bass and some wubs that are filthy but without sounding like trash. It's a great example of how the wubs and vocals can work together without one overpowering the other. During the bridge, there is subtle but well-executed spatial arrangement of the bongos. The lyrics build a sense a haunting sense of desperation, which seems to collapse into the final drop.
Nutronic has hit the scene with a great debut track that shows even more potential. Really looking forward to hearing more from this group!

AMANDA-- "THE HARDEST MISTAKES" FEAT. CASSADEE POPE by I SEE STARS

Hey all! I realize I haven't posted in over a week. My apologies. Today I'm going to try to make up for it by  bringing you a track that I just can't seem to get out my head. A certain awesome someone put "The Hardest Mistakes" on my wall the other day and it blew my mind. I've had it on a non-stop loop the last three days. It's so infectious. I See Stars have a really original style/sound that's not entirely electronic nor entirely punk but somewhere in the middle. Despite the fifty times I've listened to this song, I failed to recognize the female vocalist as Cassadee Pope, the adorable former lead singer of  Hey Monday.  Apparently, she won the third season of The Voice. So good for her. Anyway, I've rambled on quite enough. Happy listening!

ETC Sorry, readers.

Right, guys. So I have been crazy listening to Miss Higgins and so I don't have a Two Timing Tuesday for you. Additionally, I realised when writing this post that I used this song a few weeks ago when I used her on a Tuesday. So!  With that, I do not have anything new to share with you, but I kept the post that I wrote for this even though I've already used because, well, I took the time to write it. Have a great day.

Song: "Set Me On Fire" ~ Artist: Missy Higgins

Comments:   Happy Tuesday, all. Sorry I am not coming up with a Two Timing Tuesday this time. I have listened to this artist so much the last few days and this song in particular has been on loop and played probably 7 or 8 times in the last hour and a half. This song is a foot tapping favourite of mind. It makes me want to snap my fingers and sing along. This song has a jazzy beginning with a quick, staccato tempo and the chorus turns into more of a relaxed pop tune.  The bridge turns a bit slow, but doesn't take long to pick up to the relaxing yet mildly quick beat.  This song also does a good job of showing some of the range in Miss Higgins voice. What I like about her voice that is different from some of the other artists is the subtlety she has and the fact that you can hear her Australian accent when she sings. Normally accents are hidden in their songs, but no hers and it's a nice change up.

Stuck In My Skull 404 -- "Hang with Me"

Song: "Hang with Me" || Artist: Robyn || http://youtu.be/-3a2qoyONVA ||
Comments: ERROR! Entry not found!
Sorry, being a technologically-minded individual, the prospect of 404ing the audience was just so tempting. Seriously, I almost redirected to a non-existent page for this entry. But, I felt bad not penning (well, typing) a post for Monday, so I didn't. By the way, Monday was my birthday, so I took the day off. But I return, triumphant and dancing just as badly, with a song for your listening pleasure. Speaking of dancing, get out of your chair and dance! This song is perfect for it. To my ears, it comes in around 120ish BPM, and its beat is steady and proud. This is a dance song, period. The lyrics say that Robyn wants no drama, and this song is no surprises. Upbeat, relatively cheerful, and meant to get you moving. So move! Dance! Celebrate the fact that you have ears, because music like this is why having ears is awesome.

ETC# 80 "What the Hell"

Written By Anonymous on Friday, April 19, 2013 | 4/19/2013 05:00:00 AM

Song: "What the Hell" ~ Artist: Avril Lavigne

Comments: HAPPY FRIDAY! I'm using this song because there's nothing that screams the end of the week like saying "what the hell" and let's get a little crazy. Just a little bit of teen angst from her fourth album Goodbye Lullaby from 2011. I really don't have much to say about this song other than it makes me want to go out and do something fun. Happy listening!

ETC# 79 "Take a Bow"

Written By Anonymous on Thursday, April 18, 2013 | 4/18/2013 05:00:00 AM

Song: "Take a Bow" ~ Artist: Rihanna

Comments: Hi, guys! So I was doing some reminiscing and came across this song. I had forgotten about it to be honest, but I absolutely love it.  It's a single from her album Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded from back in 2008. This isn't the usual S & M that she can be known to sing about. The song is mainly focused on how she has been cheated on, but I find that as I listen to it, the song can actually be applicable to anyone even if you haven't been in a relationship. Just being led on can apply to what she said about "you put on quite a show/you really had me going/very entertaining..."  My favourite part about this song is how well it shows off Rihanna's voice. Sometimes I forget that she has some power in those chords of hers and this is one song that is definitely more slow pace, but I actually enjoy it just as much as any other song because of her voice. Happy listening!

Stuck In My Skull 403: Songs Revisited, Part 4 -- "Thou Shalt Always Kill"

Songs Revisited, Part 4 || Song: "Thou Shalt Always Kill" || Artist: dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip || http://youtu.be/CWrMGXwhFLk ||
Comments: Hello, all, and welcome to the conclusion of Songs Revisited week! I figured I'd go way back and revisit Entry 3, where I talked about this strange, wonderful song. dan le sac is the producer of this song -- the instrumentation is his work, and the rapping is the work of Scroobius Pip. I have no idea where either of them get their inspiration, but I want some of whatever they're on. DLS's work is fabulous. His weird version of electronic music is truly unlike anything I've heard, from it's weird intro all the way through it's equally odd out-tro. Throughout this uptempo track, Scroobius Pip is dropping common sense all over the place, and let me tell you, it's good to hear. I hate to end the week on such a non-descriptive note, but I truly don't know what else to say. The weird instrumentation melds perfectly with the common sense, and a great track was born. Check it out!

Stuck In My Skull 402: Songs Revisited, Part 3 -- "Resistance (Muse) [A Cappella]"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 | 4/16/2013 09:19:00 AM

Songs Revisited, Part 3 || Song: "Resistance [A Cappella]" || Original Artist: Muse || Covering Artist: Voices in Your Head || http://youtu.be/fzuQ9-KlRDE ||
Comments: Hello and welcome back to Songs Revisited Week on Stuck In My Skull! When I write entries with covers of songs, I always have this debate about how I should write titles and taglines for the entries. In this case, I decided to follow the title used in the video accompanying this song for the tagline, and split the information in the entry into Covering Artist and Original Artist. Originally featured in Entry 2, this song is the a cappella cover of the Muse song "Resistance" as performed by the group Voices in Your Head, the a cappella group of the University of Chicago. Perhaps I simply haven't had enough exposure to a cappella groups and performances, but I found myself somewhat surprised to find that the performers not only covered the vocals but also the instrumentation of the song. This includes not only keyboard or guitar parts, but one of the longest and most competent beat-boxing performances I've ever seen to cover the percussive elements of the song. If I hadn't seen the video to this song, I frankly would not have believed that a group of human beings was capable of producing the vast and staggering array of sounds used in this song. The vocal 'instrumentation' of this song is so impressive that it almost outshines the actual vocals of the song, which are impressive. I mean, forget Glee covers, this is insane. Rather than try to imitate Muse vocalist Matt Bellamy's signature falsetto vocals, Voices in Your Head doesn't even try. Instead, they focus on the emotive, room-filling tones of their own lead vocalist (whose name I do not know), and back it with their jaw-dropping supporting vocals. Their supporting vocals are so strong that I feel as though they could probably carry the song alone, on their own power. This song redefined my notions of a cappella music, and I can honestly say this is one of my all-time favourite covers. To top it all off, Voices in Your Head filmed a truly excellent music video to the song, in which the quality shines brighter than I thought college students would be capable of producing. You should definitely check this song and video out.

ETC #78 "Taking Over Me" and "Fallen"

Song: "Taking Over Me" ~ Artist: Evanescence

Comments: Hi, everyone! Forgive me, but I will be making this a short posting. Back when I was terribly musically ignorant I remember not realizing that this group was metal or even rock of any kind. The only songs that I realized they sang were "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal".  Since then I've obtained one of their albums and fell in love with it. This song in particular I really enjoy because it has an amazingly seering electric guitar in the background, quick and strong drums, and in some parts it quiets down just enough to really show off the vocals.

Song: "Fallen" ~ Artist: Evanescence

Comments: This second song really isn't slow per se, but there's something that I like about it. I can't put my finger on it, but there is a relaxing piece to it for me. Perhaps I'm just weird, but I put this on my playlist to fall asleep. The bridge in this song is absolutely amazing. There's nothing better than someone who can rock a guitar solo. The song title is also the title of the album that both of these songs come from and their probably best known hits that I mentioned in the previously. I'm a bit surprised that this wasn't also released as a single or at least had a music video. Either way, happy listening!

Stuck In My Skull 401: Songs Revisited, Part 2 -- " Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes (Tiesto Remix)"

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Monday, April 15, 2013 | 4/15/2013 05:00:00 AM

Songs Revisited, Part 2 || Song: "Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes (Tiesto Remix)" || Artist: Motorcycle || http://youtu.be/rv3EY4k3yrY ||
Comments: Hello everyone, and welcome back! Please forgive my conspicuous absence last week -- I was incredibly and wretchedly sick. But, I have at long last begun to fight off the cold and clammy embrace of my feverish captor, so let the music continue! This track is suitably warm and a cool blue sound, and I can't get enough of it. Featured all the way back in Entry 1, it's been a long time since I played this track. And I have learned a few things since I wrote that sparse description back in the day. For one, I just learned that Motorcycle is actually the illustrious electronic duo Gabriel and Dresden joined by vocalist Jes Brieden. Thank you, Wikipedia! I've joked for ages that electronic music has simultaneously the best and worst naming practices ever. Electronic music loves to actually tell you exactly what mix of whose song you're listening to, but sometimes it gets out of hand. While not as bad as some songs I've seen, the title of this track is the name of a little known group, then the track name, then the remix artist and remix name. Oh dear.
While the nomenclature might be confusing, there's nothing confusing about this track. It's the calmest, most relaxing trace track I know -- vintage Tiesto at his finest. Jes Brieden's vocals are beautifully layered over a classic kickdrum beat in the 130-140 BPM neighborhood, with some of the most relaxing synths I've ever heard. This song is seriously like warm cuddles to my ears, with a familiarity and warmth that flirts with the border of sensuality. There is precisely nothing wrong with this track. I love it. It does, in fact, 'embrace me' and 'surround me as the rush comes.' Check it out!

AMANDA-- "STILL INTO YOU" by PARAMORE

Written By amandathepanda on Friday, April 12, 2013 | 4/12/2013 11:30:00 AM

Hey all. This post is coming to you a tad later than usual. I apologize for that and my lack of entry on Wednesday. To make a long story short, I'm graduating in a month and have officially entered panic mode. I'll do my best to post when I can. Today I'm bringing y'all the latest video/single from Paramore. "Still Into You" is frankly one of the mostly bubbly, adorable songs I've ever heard from them. They've nailed power pop, proving their ability to expand and grow as musicians. It's awesome. Not to mention, the video is a lot of fun. Haley Williams looks and sounds simply amazing. For me, Paramore was one of those bands I found in my angst-ridden, hormonal teenage years and really connected with. I  probably should have gotten over them by now but what can I say? They continue to impress and delight me well into my twenties. Happy listening and have a great weekend!

ETC #77 "Reload"

Song: "Reload" ~ Artist: Tommy Trash

Comments: Happy Friday!  Sorry for the delay this morning, everyone. I am going a little out of my shell today and bringing some electronic music. I have never heard of Tommy Trash before today, but the two songs of his that I heard are the essence of electronic.  This song has an amazing pounding beat and beautiful transitions (and because of this it is great motivation to run harder while working out I found). Anyway, happy listening!

ETC #76 "Creek Mary's Blood"

Written By Anonymous on Thursday, April 11, 2013 | 4/11/2013 05:00:00 AM

Song: "Creek Mary's Blood" ~ Artist: Nightwish

Comments: Hey, folks. It's almost the weekend. Wow, this week has gone quickly... Anyhow! This song begins out with slow and powerful vocalizations and then moves into a kind of majestic rhythm.  Before you know it the tempo has progressed into a head banging beauty. The song as a whole is lacking when it comes to lyrics, but honestly it doesn't need them. The use of electric guitar alone is enough to captivate the attention of the crowd and when you add in the striking drums and the intensity of the piano things come together wonderfully.  I have to admit that I'm a little bias towards the flute (?) instrumental in here, but I really do think that it adds a certain touch that helps it stand out from the other songs on the album. Because of the operatic sound of Tarja's voice and the little bit of foreign language in the song here are the lyrics/translation for your enjoyment. Side note: I really love this group and they are amazing live. I don't know why I don't use them more often, but this song got sat aside for a rainy day. (The irony here is that it is actually raining outside as I write this.) Happy listening!

Stuck In My Skull -- Chris is Sick!

Written By Christopher Audiophile on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 | 4/09/2013 07:48:00 PM

Hey everyone. This week was originally intended to be a week of revisited songs, but as of right now, I'm really sick. I'll be getting back to the blog ASAP. Bear with me!

ETC #75 "Se Apago la Llama" and "El Boleto de Amor"

Song: "El Boleto de Amor" ~ Artist: Chino y Nacho

Comments: Buenos dias, chicos! Good morning, guys. I am bringing a little Latin flare into your Tuesday. I've been a fan of this duo for a while. I have to say that occasionally they put out a song that's a little too pretty boy pop for me, but usually their songs have a really good, get up and dance beat to it and some light rap to keep things interesting. This is a song (I'm pretty sure a bonus track) on Mi Nina Bonita and I absolutely adore it. I can't tell you why, because there's nothing in particular about this song that stands out from any other pop song. I guess it's just the idea of grabbing a couple of tickets and escaping with the one you love to anywhere you want to get away from the pressures of everyday life. Here's what I found in the way of a translation

Song: "Se Apago la Llama" ~ Artist: Chino y Nacho Ft. R.K.M & Ken-Y

Comments: I'm breaking trend by bringing to you guys one of their old singles. I wanted to share this one not only because it's a favourite of mine, but also because it is one of their slower songs. If you read the lyrics you'll see that it's a sad song, but either way it still has a way of getting me to sing along and the bridge brings it up tempo a bit which makes things a little less melancholy. Happy listening!

[Secret Sounds] ~ Phosphorescent - Song For Zula

Written By Relinquish on Monday, April 8, 2013 | 4/08/2013 11:58:00 AM

Track: Song For Zula
Artist: Phosphorescent
Download: Amazon
Phosphorescent is a group that has had various compositions and dabbled in many different genres over the years, but right now, it consists of only its founder, Matthew Houck, who is experimenting with folk rock with electronic influences. He got a big break after having some life crisis and going to Mexico to chill, be a hipster, and develop his latest album, "Muchacho".

Once in a while, you happen upon a song whose notes reach out to you, whose sound interlocks with your neurons and fills in the craters of silence burnt out by unanswered questions. Song for Zula did just that for me. This song's simplicity--with the extremely common chord progression and typical rhythm--is illusory. The form is a double parabola, with the second one peaking higher, or a type of A A' repeat. The track opens with a sawing violin, which is again deceptive in its simplicity. Immediately shining is the superb reverb in both the percussion and strings, which gives great ambiance. Some of the later string flourishes have a Middle Eastern influence, which unexpectedly blends nicely. The melody is beautifully shaped throughout, and the piece whirls in an entrancing cycle, powered by the evocative lyrics. The violin solo, complete with double stops, really compliments the role of the strings in the rest of the tune. Kudos to Phorphorescent for the ability to turn such a simple base into such a complex and interesting arrangement.

Stuck In My Skull 400: Songs Revisited, Part I -- "Memento Mori"

Songs Revisited, Part 1 || Song: "Memento Mori" || Artist: "Kamelot" || http://youtu.be/Kymf6m4sVWM ||
    Album Version: http://youtu.be/Kymf6m4sVWM
    Live Version: http://youtu.be/JnYW1xeixAE
Comments: Hello, everyone, and welcome to the four hundredth entry of Stuck In My Skull! I first started this blog on July 16, 2011, and it's been quite a journey for me. This blog is nearly two years old, and I've loved every second of it. Throughout the last (nearly) two years, I've posted some of my favourite songs on this blog, and I confess, there are a few songs that I don't feel I really did justice at the time -- this week will be a week of Songs Revisited, so I can go back and really talk about those tracks that I slighted the first time. Way back in Entry 52, I posted the song "Memento Mori" for the first time. I said when I wrote that entry that I was using that song as filler, because I felt too sick to write anything else or find anything new. "Memento Mori" is one of my favourite songs of all time, and it deserves better than being a filler entry.

"Memento Mori" is the 12th and longest track on Kamelot's seventh studio album, The Black Halo. Released in 2005, The Black Halo is a concept album that finishes telling the story began in Kamelot's previous album Epica. Epica and The Black Halo are a rock-opera telling the story of the alchemist Ariel, whose story is losely based on Goethe's Faust. In "Memento Mori," Ariel's interplay with Mephisto is beautifully concluded in a three-voice ballad of eye-watering beauty, featuring then Kamelot vocalist Roy Khan voicing Ariel, Mari Youngblood (wife of Kamelot guitarist Thomas Youngblood) voicing Helena, and Dimmu Borgir vocalist Shagrath grunting the part of Mephisto. The song opens with a piano and vocal number at slow tempo, before the guitars and drums are introduced with an up-shift of the tempo as the action begins to unfold. As Ariel realizes his control of his own destiny, the song shifts between descending chords and mellow melodies, leading up to simultaneous introduction of Mari and Shagrath as Mephisto grunts and Helena sings in overlapping Latin, joining together on the line "memento mori." Ariel, in his last moments, rejects the evil of Mephisto. Helena intercedes and asks God to save him, and Mephisto loses his bet and is cast into hell as Ariel's soul ascends to heaven to be with Helena's. Finally, the action settles to a calm out-tro, mirroring the vocal and piano intro to the song. The last note hangs as someone (probably Helena) whispers "Ariel... Ariel... Ariel..." into the silence.

There are not words for how much I love this song. Seriously, this song moves me like few other tracks can. The album version is my favourite, but the live version (recorded in Belgrade, Serbia) is also excellent. It features a slightly faster tempo; a more prominent, chugging guitar; and the voice of Shagrath is far more prominent, with Helena's being either occulted or missing. The live version is slightly rougher yet more adrenaline-pumping, whereas the album version is a slightly calmer piece, and a refined and beautiful work. If you've never heard the song, you absolutely must check it out. Enjoy!

ETC #74 "Done"

Written By Anonymous on Friday, April 5, 2013 | 4/05/2013 07:51:00 AM

Song: "Done" ~ Artist: The Band Perry

Comments: Hey all. I'm making this one short today, sorry. Here's the latest from The Band Perry and they are rocking it with a harder feel than their normal twangy country. It's a great break up song that has doesn't have the sappy depressing tune. Happy listening!

AMANDA-- "TINY DANCER" by ELTON JOHN

Hey readers. To put it simply, Elton John is a musical genius and personal hero of mine. And thanks to my mother, I'm reasonably familiar with his discography. I must say though, "Tiny Dancer" stands apart from the rest and is one of my favorite songs of all time. Elton's enchanting melody on piano paired with the poignant lyrics of his long time collaborator Bernie Taupin, and composer Paul Buckmaster's elegant strings truly make it a delight to the ears. There are probably a million things I could say about the song  and Elton in general but that could take awhile. I'll just leave it at this: if you're a fan of  piano or soft rock, you can hardly do better "Tiny Dancer." Enjoy!

ETC #73 "Only God Could Love You More"

Written By Anonymous on Thursday, April 4, 2013 | 4/04/2013 12:30:00 PM

Song: "Only God Could Love You More" ~ Artist: Jerrod Niemann

Comments: Hey, y'all. Sorry for the late posting today. I've been a bad combination of sick and busy. So I heard this song (the second single from Jerrod's latest album Free the Music) in the car just a short while ago actually, and I think this song is beautiful. The tempo in it never really pick up; it's a very slow and powerful beated song.  The rhythm and theme is quite different than Mr. Niemann's usually, but this works well for him. There's not much in the way of country feel, but rather a Christian feel to it. Either way, happy listening!

AMANDA-- "SACRILEGE" by YEAH YEAH YEAHS

Written By amandathepanda on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 | 4/03/2013 07:00:00 AM

Hey all! My sincerest apologies for not posting last Friday. Things happened and I was tied up for most of the day. Hope you're having a good week. Mine has gotten considerably better since I found out that the Yeah Yeah Yeah's have a new single out and that their album will be released on the sixteenth of this month. That is music to my ears quite literally. What can I say about "Sacrilege?" Well, for starters it has one hell of a video (Warning: NSFW). The lovely Lily Cole, British actress and model, plays a seductress in a small town who is *spoiler alert* captured and burned alive for her sins. The backwards progression of the video and the storyline itself are incredibly interesting. Thematically, I'd say it's one their best songs even without the video, though it certainty adds a layer of drama and intensity. What has kept me listening to this over and over again is that scintillating guitar, and Karen O's ethereal vocals. Did I mention the track features a gospel choir? Perfection. Enjoy!

Stuck In My Skull 399 -- "Dance with the Devil"

Song: "Dance with the Devil" || Artist: Breaking Benjamin || http://youtu.be/lMSkC2PGyTs ||
Comments: Having not slept well in more days than I care to count, I'm going to post brief comments initially, and elaborate later. When I say brief, I mean very brief: Breaking Benjamin is great, and even better when they don't use 4/4 time.

Edit: This is my later elaboration. The song is good enough to stand on it's own merit -- unlike my current state of wakefulness. Sorry, folks.

ETC #72 "Hello, Hello" and "Set Me on Fire"

Song: "Hello, Hello" ~ Artist: Missy Higgins

Comments: Heeeeey there, listeners! So, I came across a new Australian artist recently and she is absolutely wonderful! Miss Higgins has an angelic voice and a wonderfully soft, yet powerful range and sound. She has 3 albums the earliest being released in 2004 and her most recent was released last year. I have put that on my list of CDs to obtain because I have done nothing except listen to it for the last two days. It was incredibly difficult to pick a song, so what I did was pick ones that had official videos. While many of her songs are mellow and have a medium tempo this song is one of the faster ones. It's catchy and I'm replaying it in my head as I write this. I will say that this has a bit of a strange music video, but it's at least entertaining.

Song: "Set Me on Fire" ~ Artist: Missy Higgins

Comments: Her songs use a beautiful combination of typical piano, guitar, drums, but also trumpet and cello. I really like this song because it has a bit of a swinging beat; it makes me want to dance and sing along. And it the chorus also shows off some of the range in her voice. If y'all are liking this fabulous foreigner there is a full concert on Youtube that is excellent (from what I've listened to so far).  She sounds just as beautiful live which is a hard quality to come by sometimes. Happy listening!

Stuck In My Skull 398 -- "I Can Walk On Water"

Song: "I Can Walk On Water" || Artist: Basshunter || http://youtu.be/BLyHWIXTrlI ||
Comments: Basshunter, you are fantastic. I really can't think of a much better way to start a Monday than with a nice Basshunter track. I have to say, this is one of my favourites. It's slow buildup into an easy, dance-able beat that's just hard enough to groove to and just soft enough to be happy-sounding is a masterful intro. Complimented by the cheerful-sounding synths and fairly uplifting lyrics, this is one of the happiest dance tracks I've ever heard. If you really hate Mondays, give this a listen -- I think you'll be glad you did.
