Comments: Hello everyone! Let's get your week started off right with an amazing remix of an amazing song. Foxes -- mostly recently famous for being the vocalist on Zedd's track "Clarity" -- put together a pretty excellent song that Adventure Club got ahold of and somehow managed to make better. This song sits somewhere between dubstep and chillstep, being slow and calm but not quite as mellow as what I would normally call chillstep. It's got Foxes' eerily good vocals perfectly complementing an excellent drop and some truly gripping instrumentation. I originally stumbled onto this song when I saw it on this a popular YouTube channel known for its excellent taste in free music. There's currently no download link to the song by either Foxes or Adventure Club so I don't feel comfortable providing a possibly dangerous link to a download site from here, but I will say that it's fairly easy to find a download if you just Google the song. (Do this at your own risk. Again, I can't find an official download so it may or may not be piracy at this point.) Whether you want to download it or not, definitely give this track a listen. It's amazing.

Comments: Good morning everyone, and happy Friday! Today I'm pleased to bring you not one, not two, but FOUR free tracks! Granted, two of them are just me telling you to go look at This Beat Is Newtricious, because the one and only DJ Abso-Newt-ly has two amazing tracks with download links on his blog today. For my part, let's talk about the track "Ladies." As usual, I've never heard of this artist before, but they've done an excellent job of putting together a very instrumental chillstep track. It's calm, relaxing, and really puts a smile on my face. Clicking the download link will take you to their Facebook page, where you'll be able to download this and one other song for the free! To top it off, I wanted to let you lovely readers know about a this page: EDC2014LiveSets. Comments: Good morning everyone! Today's intended entry is postponed due to Soundcloud being weird, but check back Friday for something new and hot! Today, let's talk about older but still amazing. This is, hands down, one of my favourite dubstep songs. Its remix by Adventure Club actually sounds nothing like the original song, but this reinterpretation does wonderful things to the original vocals and beat. The drop here isn't quite as massive as some more recent hits, but I'm actually fine with that. This song somehow manages to straddle the line between dub- and chill-step and does a masterful job of it. I've never yet been disappointed by Adventure Club's remixes, and this is no exception. Go give it a listen!

Temporal is a young Canadian producer who specializes in chill vibes, with bass so low you'll wonder how you can even hear it. He also records a lot of the sounds that he uses in his tracks himself. He enjoys photography as well and has an eye for landscapes. And we also have Veela performing on this track, the purple-haired wondervoice from Vancouver, or the fictional character Mama Cat.

No Story, is all about atmosphere, and Temporal immediately creates a gripping and ethereal one with the echoing sounds and music played backwards, creating a mysterious and eerie feel. The wobbling bass in the chorus adds to this unsettling, foggy atmosphere, as though the foundation is trembling. As the percussion and bass rest, Temporal's acoustic guitar accompanies Veela's emotive vocals, almost singing along with her. The lyrics are curious and leave you imagining, forming a story in your head without knowing where it's going. And, perhaps most importantly, this song asks what we all ask: "Are you really my friend? Are you real? I don't know how I feel about you." This collaboration is amazing piece of work that displays astounding attention to detail.

Download: iTunes Ghosts Of Paraguay is an artist from the UK whose music can only be described as as haunting as the story (I presume) behind the producer's name: in the Paraguayan war of the 19th century, the deadliest war in all of history, more than half of Paraguay's population was slaughtered, with estimates as high as 90% of the male population killed. His music has an otherworldly ambiance that leaves one feeling disembodied.

The River--from the album Silent Souls--opens with plaintive piano chords and the vocals of Aiden Dullaghan. This song has minimalistic qualities, elaborating on the same chords and focusing on one motif. The bass is deep and the percussion is precise and not overpowering. Though the piece is fairly simple musically, the evocative lyrics paint pictures of the clash of war and innocence. The ambiance is really what shines, with the crackles, faint background vocals, and sustained strings. The cyclic piano chord progression through this ambiance is mesmerizing. The pristine quality in the vibrato of Dullghan's voice over the crackle, after everything else has faded, resonates in the ear even after the song's end.

Nowadays, many EDM producers like to say they "press buttons and make music." Some of them make music, while others make art. One of these artists is the underappreciated Day One, currently a student at Oxford University. His music reflects inspiration, careful thought, and a profound mastery of music theory.

The tune Lunar Orbit is a gentle giant, with its graceful melodies and big bass. The arpeggiation builds on harmony line, setting the stage for the piano melody. Day One works up to the drop with subtlely, like a swell, without any blaring chromatic rises or rapid percussion. After the drop, the tune glides seamlessly from section to section. The layers weave in and out over the wobbling bass--yet never in interference--creating a beautiful and hypnotizing ambiance. Slowly, the other layers drop out leaving only the piano, as the track ends on a non-I chord, giving the listener pause and striking the sense of longing that the piece gives. Hats off to Day One for a poignant and captivating song!

Comments: The internet is weird. I mean, who honestly sat down and said "Let's take a picture of a cute cat, put a funny caption on it, and butcher the spelling on the caption?" And beyond that, who would have thought they'd be hilarious  and turn into a hallmark of internet culture? Besides just locats, we have the internet to thank for the rise and spread of numerous bands and artists, such as Mt Eden. I'm not a huge dusbtep junkie, but I really like this track. I would almost have to call it 'chillstep'-- that wonderful portmanteau of a genre. However, I'm fairly sure there is an actual definition for chillstep, so I'll just settle for calling it 'really chill dubstep.' I love this track. And I love that it's a free download. The link in the youtube description leads to a 'file not found' on rapidshare, but as the annotation on the youtube video itself points out, the song is available as a free and legal download on their soundcloud, found here.
