Comments: Hello, everyone, and happy Wednesday! If you live in the US, hopefully your Labor Day went well. I know mine did! I rather unexpectedly slept in until nearly 11 AM -- a rare treat in my life. To make up for missing Monday, I'm hoping to blow you away with a really excellent song. I'm a bit behind the times with this one so some of you have probably heard it, but I think it's still worth posting. For today, I'd like to talk about the title track and second single from Lindsey Stirling's second album, Shatter Me. It features vocals from Lzzy Hale of Halestorm, and I have to say that they're fantastic. I'd never heard of Halestorm before this, but after seeing this video and watching the behind the scenes videos (yes, plural -- one for the studio and one for the video set), I have to say that I'm definitely agreeing with Lindsey and becoming sort of an "instant fan" of her work. This song is slightly less violin-focused than some of Lindsey Stirling's other hits, but more than makes up for it by putting just the right amount of instrumentation and emphasis in all the right places. I mean, seriously, a violin dubstep drop? I just can't get enough! The lyrics are excellently written -- there's no evidence at all that this is Lindsey's first time writing lyrics. While the drop is definitely Lindsey Stirling's take on dubstep, the rest of the song carries strong pop overtones, and to my ears what is a strong rock feeling, no doubt complements of Lzzy Hale's influence. Call it whatever you want, the song is fantastic and the video is just as good. Go watch it, and remember to like us on Facebook!

Comments: Good morning, everyone! Over the holidays I received Lindsey Stirling's album as a gift, and I am absolutely in love with it. This song in particular strikes me as deserving of more attention than it currently receives. Like pretty much everything she does, Lindsey Stirling put her heart into this song, and it shows. The beats make me want to dance, and the violin really does bring a smile to my face. Basically, this song is obscenely cheerful and will brighten your day -- give it a listen!

Comments: Hello, everyone! This week I'm going to be trying to post on a Monday/Wednesday/Friday schedule and see if it works any better with my week, so stay tuned this week for (hopefully) regular entries. To kick the week off, Lindsey Stirling has a new song out, and it is excellent. If she hadn't become a viral-hit violinist, Lindsey may well have had a future in electronic music production. To say that the intro to the song reminds me of old-school Tiesto is a high complement in my book, and I found myself wanting play this song over and over. On top of the hypnotic beat is Lindsey Stirling's signature masterful violin work, artfully arranged and perfectly executed. Well done, Lindsey, well done indeed.

Comments: Good morning, everyone! Today is one of those days where the song stuck in my head has already been blogged about. As much as I feel as though I spend many entries singing the praises of "Don't You Worry Child," I make a point to not repeat songs unless it's Songs Revisited Week. So, let's talk about Lindsey Stirling. As always, everyone's favourite dancing violinist puts on a masterful presentation. "Shadows" is a violin duet with both parts played by Lindsey Stirling, set to an upbeat electronic rhythm composed by Lindsey Stirling. The video itself is an aesthetically pleasing black and white piece featuring both Lindsey Stirling and her shadow dancing, choreographed by Lindsey Stirling. Is there anything she can't do? Apparently not. But hey, she does an excellent job of doing everything, and I admire it. Get this stuck in your head, and have a great day!

Comments: Raise your hand if you saw this one coming (and put them back down because I can't see you): To finish off this theme week: The one, the only, the absolutely fantastic Lindsey Stirling! For this piece, the fabulous Ms. Stirling drops jaws with a selection of several well-known tunes from the Legend of Zelda series, performed in her trademark dancing-while-playing style. This video is an audiovisual treat. I'm not even going to try and describe this: Just go watch. It's that good.

I've been a huge fan of video game music pretty much since I became a huge fan of video games. That is to say, I've been a huge fan of video game music for a pretty long time. Long ago, a friend of mine gave me a copy of the Halo 2 soundtrack, and I love it. I won't spend time talking about the content of the Halo games themselves, but I will say that they've always had an excellent soundtrack. While Lindsey and William's cover is not a note-by-note rendition of the score that Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori wrote, it is a very beautiful production that captures the spirit of the original piece perfectly in it's famed riffs and chords. It then goes beyond the original song to explore a new spin on the original feeling the piece creates, driven by the unique (for the genre) interplay of violin and piano with only occasional electric guitar riffs added in. This song is excellent, and you should definitely give it a listen. You can ignore the last minute or so, if you like. Lindsey Stirling seems to have gotten sponsored. While I generally dislike artists pushing products, I will say this in her defense: First, she really deserves a sponsorship -- she's an amazing artist and that could really give her a leg up. Second, she waits until after the video, unlike some other artists who simply build their music videos and lyrics around a product. Looking at you, Pitbull.
Lindsey's friend and the videographer behind the shoot made a video that's more action-centered and has less emphasis on the music. It's still excellent, has plenty of Lindsey Stirling and William Joseph in it, and is truer to the original score with less exploration. I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist the set-up. Anywho, "Spontaneous Me" is a lovely track -- a bright, vibrant, cheerful violin full of vintage Lindsey Stirling spirit layered on top of some bass that makes me headphones pulse in just the right way to get me moving. Lindsey Stirling is simply amazing. While this song is not nearly as well known has her infamous 'dubstep violin' hits "Elements" and "Crystallize," "Spontaneous Me" is Lindsey Stirling doing what she loves to do -- rock us.

Musically, it's interesting to see Lindsey utilizing electronic and techno elements without going all the way to dubstep. And let's face it. Dancing zombies. What more could you want? Anyway, the song. This is the second time that Lindsey Stirling has produced a violin/dubstep track, and like the original offering, Ms. Stirling did a fantastic job on this song. She emphasizes the dubstep part of the track a titch more than in "Crystallize," but I'm okay with that, as I think it sounds fantastic. As is usual for her, she put together a stunning video to accompany the song. All in all, I think Lindsey Stirling is an amazing artist, and I look forward to hearing more of her work.

Comments: I originally ran into Lindsey Stirling when I was slumming around for material for Tour of Techno Week, if I recall-- her "dubstep violin" came up on my radar, and very nearly made it into the slot for dubstep. Lindsey Stirling is a freakishly talented violinist and a talented dancer. She has an energy that radiates through the screen to the audience, and infects them with her vibrant spirit. Having heard many a cover of Phantom of the Opera, I can say that not only is this one of-- if not the-- best, but it's a fantastic medley. This song is very much worth a listen, and the video is a captivating watch. Check it out! (click to read more)
