Stuck In My Skull 512 -- "Body Work"

Song: "Body Work" || Artist: Morgan Page feat. Tegan and Sara || http://youtu.be/QHe1PvKALaY ||

Comments: Hello and happy Friday everyone! To get the weekend started off right, I've got a lovely track from Canadian prog house/electro house DJ Morgan Page. I've been hearing a remix of this song on the radio lately, and while I haven't been able to find the exact remix I've been hearing, the original track is just as excellent as the remix. Speaking of original tracks, what is it about pairing Tegan and Sara's vocals with an electronic music track that makes it work every time? (See example -- "Feel It In My Bones" Tiesto remix.) This track is fairly calm but has a solid beat, making it good for both chill and dance. Whether you're going out to rave this weekend or relax at home, take this song with you. Enjoy!

Stuck In My Skull 497 -- "Everything Is Awesome!"

Song: "Everything Is Awesome!" || Artist: Tegan and Sara feat. The Lonely Island || http://youtu.be/StTqXEQ2l-Y ||

Comments: Good morning, everyone? Is your day awesome yet? If not, this stupidly-catchy song will make it awesome. Why? Because this song is awesome. Legos are awesome. Your day is going to be awesome. And probably full of this song, because it's just that catchy. This cornerstone of the soundtrack for The Lego Movie was done by Tegan and Sara, although it took me listening a few times to catch their influence. This song has a bit of everything -- up-beat pop tempos, a bit of rap thanks to The Lonely Island, a brief dubstep break, and catchy lyrics. I don't believe that The Lego Movie was made just for kids, and even if it was, I don't care. It was a great movie, and I love this song.

AMANDA-- "I WAS A FOOL"

Hey readers! I discovered Canadian indie rockers and identical twin sisters Tegan and Sara in high school and have kept up with their music ever since. I was pleasantly surprised then to hear the first single "Closer" of their latest album Heartthrob, which signals a new direction for the band. If I had never heard them before, I might not have recognized the artist as Tegan and Sara. The thirty-three year olds wanted to change things up on their seventh record and boy did they. The quality of the singing and song-writing we've come to expect from them is there but in a shiny, new, synth package. The duo tackle classic themes of young love, lust, and heartbreak with a level of skill and maturity only experienced musicians can. This track, "I Was a Fool," has been stuck in my cranium for days now. It has a beat that you can dance or tap your foot to, a beautiful melody on piano, and excellent vocal harmonization. Tegan and Sara take turns singing but when their two voices merge and become one it's magic. The entire album is fun, playful, and thoughtful. I hope you'll check it out. Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Entry 269-- "Walking with a Ghost"

Song: "Walking with a Ghost" || Artist: The White Stripes || http://youtu.be/jeYyoU8kKPQ ||

Comments: Oh, this song takes me back. As I recall, I originally found this song a few years ago when I really started exploring The White Stripes. To put things in perspective, playlist.com was actually popular and useful then. After some poking around, I learned that this song was, in fact, a cover of the original song by Tegan and Sara, another very good two-person group. You should take a listen, and if you like it, go find the original and see what you think. Enjoy!

Comments: Hey everyone! It's Amanda! Today's pick comes from Tegan and Sara. This indie band, composed of two identical twin sisters, hails from Canada and have been around since the mid-1990's. I haven't listen to them in a while but I really enjoy their music and appreciate that they compose all their own songs. As a fan, I had some difficulty choosing just one Tegan and Sara song. It came down to this and "Walking with a Ghost." Both are good but I couldn't get "The Con" out of my head. The music video is interesting as well. Enjoy!
